Week: 16 Wrap-Up Webinars

What an amazing thing that 23 Things Kansas has been! I am so glad that I had the opportunity to learn about so many helpful internet products.
The one thing that would of been helpful was to of had 2 weeks worth of assignments given together so if we were short handed or were sick and missed work we could work ahead alittle.

1. Creating a blog was as new thing for me and very useful. I LOVED it!
2. Social networking was also new for me. I did't have a facebook account but now I do, I caught on quick and now I use it not only with the library but also with my family and friends.
3.Wimba was great and plan to use that in the future.
4. I absolutley loved Flickr. That is so NEAT and probably one of my favorite sessions.
5. RSS and Feed Readers was good but took a little more patience. It was frustrating some but I managed to get throught it and will use it some in the future.
6. For tagging and social bookmarking, I used Delicious. I do not see myself using this daily but will be handy for some things.
7. For microblogging I used Twitter. I thought is was interesting during the wrap-up wimba session on Wed. that someone made the comment about using this if you wanted to make a complaint about a specific product, companies have been known to contact the person making the complaint and making things right with them!
8. I found cloud computing very easy to use and what a way to cut traveling expenses between company people and yet have some excellent productive results in a timely manner.
9. For instant messaging and text chat I went through Meebo. I think as long as I have email and facebook I will probaly not use Meebo very much.
10. Video sharing was a fun experience. I didn't really care for how my video turned out because I was not able to spend enough time on it to make it exactly like I wanted.
11. BREAK WEEK - Yes that was NICE!
12. Jing (screencasting) - I LOVED this, one of my favorite!! It was very user friendly and great to work with - not alot of time involved but had a great outcome in the end. This would be super to use when training new staff members!
13. For presentation sharing I used Animoto. It was also alot of fun. I will use this in the future as well.
14. Library Thing - Wiki was o.k. but not one of my favorites.

Week 14: Library Thing

I really enjoyed using Shelfari. This would be a fantastic tool for our patrons to use who read all the time and sometimes can't remember what they have read or a new title they want to read in the future but the title escapes their memory when they are ready for it. I will probably continue to use it. What a neat idea for someone to create this - it must have been a librarian!!

Week 13 - Slide Showing

I chose to use Animoto and it was easy to use. I look forward to creating another video when I can spend more time creating it from some of my favorite pictures. This assignment was pretty simple and FUN! Snapshot Kansas 2010 sounds like alot of fun but I don't think I will have the time to get into that for the time being.

Week 12 Screencasting

I did a screencast of how to search for an item and place a hold on items in our Coffey County Library Card Catalog online. Screencasting was very appealing! Jing as so EASY to use, it was very simple to use and FUN!! I can see almost any company using this to train new employees. Libraries especially could benefit from this as they train new employees to use their automation system. It would save a considerable amount of staff time training someone new and yet be very effective. Having this to train people who are new to computers with different software programs would be so HELPFUL!!
Wish I wasn't so far behind. I had this almost done the week it was assigned, however with being a little shorthanded with staff and being gone last week to KLA conference - yes I did get behind. Hopefully I will get caught up this week, since we are almost done. KLA conference was ALOT of fun as usual. It is always fun to reconnect with fellow K-Placer class members and to meet new faces that you have emailed back and forth with over the past year.

Week 9: Instant Messaging and Text Chat

Instant Messageing was a very interesting and fun project this week. I had never heard of Meebo before. I think it will be very useful for me. The only experience with IM I have has been

Week 8: Cloud Computing

Cloud computing has been real interesting. I can see how valubale this could be to individuals serving on a committee or a board. People not living in the same community or living across states from each other would find this to be very benficial both time saving and economical. I am glad I had the opportunity to use cloud computing!

Week 7: Microblogging

Working with Twitter has been fun! It is amazing how fast you can be connected with other people and how fast you can build your resources. The list of examples was a nice help. Finding people to follow was simple. Three people/organizations that I started following are two coworkers: ssharpe86, Elizabethiepoo, and the Mayo Clinic. I will find it helpful as I continue to plan programs/activities for library patrons of various ages.

Week 6: Tagging and Soical Bookmarking

I found delicious to be very interesting and helpful. I look forward to using it in the future when I am looking for new programs to do with my afterschool activity. I can see this being beneficial in several ways. It is easy and fun to use!!
